This one-day course presents practical exercises about the role of the Data Protection Officer, key responsibilities and actions of the role; covering an introduction to privacy law, the GDPR articles; designation of DPO, tasks and position of DPO. Exercises covering the importance of accountability and transparency. Looking at the difference between implementation and advice/inform and monitor. How to avoid conflict of interest and how to manage a difference of opinions. This course will support you to build and embed a Data Protection by design culture and lots more!

10.00 – 11.30      SECTION A – Introduction in to privacy law.

                              Practical session – General Data Protection Regulations & Data Protection Act

11.30 – 11.45       Refreshment break

11.45 – 13.15       SECTION B – Designation of DPO – GDPR Art 37 (1) a-c and (2)-(7)

                              When do you legally need to have a DPO? Covering expert knowledge and                                          internal vs external Difference between DPO and EU representative

13.15 – 14.00      Lunch

14.00 – 15.00     SECTION C – Tasks of DPO – GDPR Article 39 (1) to (6)

                             Difference between implementation and advice/inform and monitor                                                       Compliance. How a DPO might monitor compliance

15.00 – 15.15     SECTION D – Position of Data Protection Officer – GDPR Art 38 (1) to (6)

                             How to avoid conflict of interest and manage a difference of opinions.

15.15 – 16.15      Privacy management systems and controller obligations. What the DPO did next? 16.15 – 16.30     Close and finish
