Are you overwhelmed with the world of Information Asset Management (IAM) and not sure where to start or what IAM is? Then this is the course for you we will lead you through the information you are required to collect and how to collect it, how to deal with a senior management buy in and clarify the roles of the Information Asset Owner and Administrator.

Course Overview

This one day course provides a basic overview of what information assets are, the roles, responsibilities and daily tasks of an Information Asset Owner/Administrator and how to manage working relationships with senior management and stakeholders.  We will guide you through how to develop and maintain an Information Asset Register, assess information risks, threats, hazards and how to mitigate them. Data Breach Management and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) are also topics that are included.
This course also covers Records Of Processing Act (ROPA), Information Risk, Data Flows and Information Audits, who does what and how it all fits together. 
At the end of this course you will have an excellent understanding of Information Asset management and be confident in how to implement this in your place of work. By attending this course you will have an understanding of what an information asset is, and the difference between owners and administrators. You will learn how to complete an IAR so you can easily implement in your area of work.
 

Course Programme 

Welcome, goals for the day and what do you know about Information Asset Management (IAM)? 

Legal Framework word cloud (Including Data Protection Act 2018). The accountability principle and Records of Processing activities (ROPA).Information Asset Managment key words, short videos on what is an Information Asset.  Information Asset Owners & Administrators roles and responsibilities. What are the daily tasks and key issues for the IAO and Information Asset Administrators; Information Security, Contract clauses, Policies and procedures, Disposal, Vulnerabilities and Information Lifecyle. 

Overview of the Information Asset Register, what it includes, updating your IAR and analysing an information asset. When should assets be added to the register, example of good and bad management and how to use it as a positive tool for change? 

How to conduct an information asset audit, what information are you looking for and how to ask questions to find information. 

What different kind of records need protecting, where will you find information, who should you be talking to and how to interview someone to find information.   

An example Data Flow Mapping video and an opportunity for delegates to create their own. 

Information Risk Exercise – play your assets right card game which links information assets with retention dates, threats, hazards, vulnerabilities, potential impact, and controls.

Business continuity. Overview and practical exercise of Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA). 

Overview and practical exercise of a Data Breach and reporting.   

Finalising the day with building a Culture of Information management.
